Home-Start Bradford District started in 1999 covering the North of Bradford. Home-Start Bradford District is based at the Thornbury Centre and has expanded over the years. We now support families across different parts of the Bradford District, primarily in Keighley and the Better Start Bradford area of Bradford Moor, Bowling & Barkerend and Little Horton. We are able to support families beyond these areas of Bradford and are seeking funding to support families wherever they live in Bradford.
Home-Start Bradford District grew when it was recognised that there was a local need for peer support for families around the Bradford Moor area and beyond. Home-Start Bradford District was supported locally, evolving into an independent charity and Company Limited by Guarantee.
From starting with one worker, Home-Start Bradford District has grown to include 6 paid staff and over 70 volunteers.
Whilst being an independent charity, Home-Start Bradford District is part of the Home-Start UK network, who provide training, information, guidance and Quality Assurance to local Home-Starts across the country, ensuring consistent, good quality support for parents and children.
When Home-Start was founded in 1973, no-one involved in this unique parent-to-parent support service imagined that one local Scheme in Leicester would be so effective and so popular with families that it would expand to well over 300 schemes within 30 years. It did, and now Home-Start is the UK's leading family support charity and is still expanding into more areas of the UK.
